Last Saturday, I had the great fortune to witness 'The Furnace' in action, at the outdoor performance space at The Stade in Hastings. This is a combination of Morris Offspring and Faustus. Morris Offspring are a contemporary take on Morris Dancing, and Faustus a very good English folk music band. Described in the programme as 'Surging with hot, raw energy, the unstoppable machinery of Morris Offspring, driven by the mighty sound of folk powerhouse Faustus, creates a rare jewel!' 

It was certainly energetic with excellent music. As the night drew in, the lights went up and the dancers changed, both in dress and in tempo. Soon were banished the whites of Morris dancing to be replaced by earthen colours and half human animals in costume.

A really good night, but sadly I think, the last of what I think was a 5 year collaboration between the two.
